High Halden is situated between Ashford and Tenterden on the A28. There is a Village Hall that can be booked out for events, meetings and clubs and there is a plan to try and open a Community Shop by refitting a small outbuilding next to The Chequers Country Inn as a replacement of the original Village Shop that unfortunately had to close. There was originally a small Train Station called High Halden Road linking Tenterden to Headcorn. If was said that fifty tons of Oak from some distance away was used to build the unusual Tower and Spire of the 10th -14th Century Church in 1470-1490. The Chequers Country Inn, circa 1620, is known to have been used by smugglers and the various gangs such as the “Hawkhurst” and “Cranbrook” gangs that were active in the mid 18th Century. The parish is recorded in the Domesday Book and parts of a Norman Manor can be seen at Tiffenden Farm.
